About Rex Reynolds:
A Lifetime of Service to Huntsville and Madison County.
Rex Reynolds has spent his career serving the people of Huntsville and Madison County — as a police officer, a city administrator, and now as our State Representative. As Chairman of the House Ways and Means General Fund Committee, Rex has the record and the experience to keep fighting for what matters most to the families in our community.
Rex Reynolds has spent his career serving the people of Huntsville and Madison County — first on the streets, then in city government, and now in the Alabama House of Representatives.
Rex began his career in law enforcement with the City of Huntsville, rising through the ranks to serve as Police Chief. He went on to become Director of Public Safety, and later, under Mayor Tommy Battle, served as City Administrator until his retirement from city government in 2013. Rex then moved into the private sector as President of a local communications company.
Throughout it all, Rex has stayed rooted in community service, serving on the boards of the Boys and Girls Club, Crime Stoppers, the Partnership for a Drug Free Community, and the Madison County Alternative Sentencing Board. In 2014, he received a legislative appointment to the Madison County Judicial Commission, and in 2017 he was appointed to represent the Alabama Retired State Employees Association.

In 2018, voters elected Rex in a special election to represent District 21 in the Alabama House of Representatives. His colleagues quickly recognized his leadership, appointing him Chairman of the House Committee on Ways and Means General Fund and the House Committee on Madison County Legislation. He also serves on the Permanent Joint Legislative Advisory Committee on Economic Incentives and the Committee on Finances and Budget. On the national level, Rex serves as the Speaker's appointment to the Southeastern Legislative Conference's Human Services and Public Safety Committee.
Rex's service has been recognized with the Whitney Young Jr. Community Service Award, induction into the Boys and Girls Clubs of North Alabama Hall of Fame, the Commander's Award for Public Service from the Department of the Army, and the National Guard's Friend of the Regiment Medal.
As a legislator, Rex has delivered results. He introduced the Back the Blue Act, which expands civil and criminal liability protections for law enforcement officers acting within the scope of their duty and creates a pretrial hearing process for the early dismissal of eligible lawsuits. He also worked to pass the Safe Alabama Public Safety Package, which modernized law enforcement policy, supports officer retention, and addresses violent crime. As Chairman of the House Ways and Means General Fund Committee, Rex built and passed a $3.7 billion general fund budget that's helping recruit jobs and businesses to Alabama.
Rex's family owns and operates Reynolds and Son's Farm in north Madison County. He and his wife, Mary, have been married for 42 years and have two sons, Matt and Brett. Matt is married to the former Rachel Weaver, and they have three sons — Kipton, Kaden, and Kyleb. Brett is married to the former Paige Daly. The whole family calls Huntsville and Madison County home.
